Capt. Scott grew up in a boating community. A native of Newburyport, Massachusetts, a small fishing town in the North East corner of the state. Scott was motivated to be on the sea not only because of his natural surroundings, but by his father Mike who taught him to respect the water at a very young age. Mike was an avid sailboater as a teen, he often crewed at the American Yacht Club on many race winning sailboats. Scott and his family never owned boats until years later, but as a child Scott would never pass at the opportunity to be on "someone else's boat". Capt. Scotts formal training began at the age of 12 when he went to the American Yacht Clubs summer sailing school with younger brother Jeff. The Summer program was hands on training at the mouth of the Merrimac River in Newburyport. Years later when in college, Scott began teaching sea kayaking, a hobby he picked up years before. Working for "Adventure Learning" Scott was one of the advance instructors teaching adults basic paddling, rescue classes, multi-day expeditions, and Scotts favorite... whale watching by Kayak! In 1988 Scott made his love for the water a full time job by joining the US Navy! In the navy Scott attended numerous "small boating" schools which included advanced navigation, communications, and basic seamanship. Although not often on a ship, when Scott is, he takes the first opportunity he has to tour the bridge and ask questions; one of his final questions is always, "So can I drive it for a while". While he wasn't the "official" ship driver, Scott has been at the helm of Amphibs, Destroyers, and even a few Submarines! One of Scotts greatest boating opportunities wasn't actually on a boat, but at school training for his captains license which he obtained in 2003. In December of 2002 Scott and 3 co-workers embarked on a boating challenge that put them on CBS evening news! The 4 sailors paddled two tandem sea kayaks from Norfolk, VA all the way to Washington, DC to raise donations for the SOF Warrior Foundation, an organization that provides college and other benefits to the surviving family of a deceased active duty military member. Scott and the crew paddled for 6 days, through wind, rain, snow, and ice, reaching the Washington canoe and kayak club at Noon on Friday December 17th where they were met by media, high ranking military officers, and family. Their hard work and dedication raised well over 40 thousand dollars for the charity. Captain Scott put his license to use while living in Monterey CA for a year and a half at the helm of the Monterey Express dive boat! Owner Captain Tim (retied Navy Senior Chief) put Scott to the test; navigating the 47' custom dive boat through some fog filled, big Pacific waters! Today Captain Scott is enjoying his second boat the Katie Lynn. Prior to her, Scott and Tammy owned the sailboat "My Dads Dream", a 39' Yorktown that they owned for 6 years, in which the first year and a half they lived aboard in San Diego. Scott enjoys being on, in, and under the water. If your ever looking for a day on the bay, don't hesitate to call him.
